Scott AllenIn 1987 I had the wonderful honor and privilege of meeting Scott Allen, our recipient of this issue's Heroes of the Faith honors. Throughout the 80's and well into the 90's Scott was perhaps best known publicly for the key role that he played as guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the Grammy and Dove award winning group "Mylon & Broken Heart." Scott's work and music have had a profound effect on hundreds of thousands of lives over the years and he continues to use the powerful anointing that God has gifted him with to touch lives all around the world. As long as I have known him, I can say without hesitation that Scott is the consummate servant in both word and deed. Even while he was touring with Broken Heart, one of the nation's most effective, popular and successful Christian rock & roll bands, Scott's humble demeanor and eager willingness to share what God had given him with others has always preached louder than many pastors do on Sunday morning. "Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?" (Proverbs 20:6) This "gentle prophet" now serves the body of Christ in perhaps his greatest role yet. He is now employed by Kenneth Copeland Ministries in Fort Worth, Texas where he heads up the daily operations and oversight of the ministry's recording facilities. Scott and his wonderfully talented staff are responsible for producing and recording some of the finest worship and outreach music out today. Scott also plays guitar as a senior member of Kenneth Copeland's traveling convention praise team. As great as all of these wonderful accomplishments may be, Scott and his lovely wife Debbie, who also works on the campus of KCM, have produced by far their greatest work in the persons of their two beautiful and talented children Justin and Nicole. While I was in Texas working on the CD, I was blessed with being able to attend, along with Scott and Debbie, the awards ceremony where Justin and Nicole were both presented with certificates of excellence for finishing the school year at the top of their class. What an awesome investment in the future of the Church of Jesus Christ! In 1994 before I set out to begin recording my first solo CD entitled "Toward The Mark" I began the difficult task of looking for a producer who would not only do a great job with the technical aspects of my project but who would also be able to take its mission to heart as well. Almost immediately God brought Scott to mind. At the time, both Scott and Mylon had disbanded Broken Heart and were traveling together extensively. To tell you the truth, I did not think that he would even have the time to take on anything as time and energy consuming as producing a music project. But in true Scott Allen form he accepted the project without hesitation. I cannot put in words how much his offering to help built my faith for what the project could do for the Kingdom of God. A few months after our initial conversation I received a call from Scott letting me know that he and Mylon were going to be in my area. I asked if it he would have time to get together and discuss the project. As usual, he said that he would make the time. When they had arrived in town, the three of us met for dinner in the restaurant at the hotel where they were staying. As we were waiting to be served, Scott had remembered that he had forgotten something and needed to go back to his room. While he was gone, Mylon leaned over and said something to me that I believe with all of my heart sums up Scott's entire life and ministry. He said, "Brother, whatever Scott puts his hand on always turns out better than it was!" What a legacy! "Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips." (Proverbs 27:2) During that meeting we made plans for me to travel to Atlanta to their studio to finish laying down instrumental an vocal tracks. Several months later we flew to Texas where we mixed the songs and it was all done. It has been over 12 years since we have completed that project and are now finishing our next CD entitled, "Between The Lines." This eleven song album features a re-release of a song that Scott had written that was originally recorded and released by Mylon & Broken Heart. The song is entitled, "Won By One." Scott's expertise, passion to see God's word go forth and servant's heart has once again had a profound impact on my life, my ministry and the lives of those that God allows me the privilege of reaching. He is in fact a member of an exclusive but very rare breed of ministers who have indeed forsaken all to serve our great, mighty and soon coming King! Would that the body of Christ have more like Scott Allen! |
