Stay Focused!

I was watching a documentary about some of the new weaponry the military has at its disposal. One particular piece I found to be very interesting is a hand held device that "paints the target." This is a ground laser that is used to pinpoint a target from a far distance so that our air power can focus on it and destroy the target with precise accuracy. The people on the ground must do their job very well to ensure a successful strike. The one holding the laser is as important as the pilot flying the jet that actually fires on the target.

In the spiritual sense we must do the same. At this time of national tragedy we are very aware of the need for prayer. Intercession and prayer are the spiritual lasers that we have at our disposal. Each of us has been assigned the task of "painting the targets." God takes care of the results when we are faithful to do our part. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16

We also know that we are to work together to remind ourselves of what our priorities need to be in this time of confusion. It is so easy to get caught up in following the events on the TV, radio, Internet, etc. But we must remember that in order to be effective believers, we have to know how to balance what we are taking into our minds, eyes, and ears versus what we need to be giving out to others. We cannot allow this information to hinder us from doing what God wants us to do in holding down our own posts. We must maintain control of our emotions and thoughts in order to be able to focus our spiritual lasers on targets of need. We must "stay focused."

We must keep our hearts clean and pull down any strongholds that would get in the way of our being able to "paint our targets" with prayer. All of us need to be that ground force that prayerfully support our primary forces.

The top priority is to pray for our President to have the wisdom to make the right decisions in light of recent events. Pray for the Vice President and cabinet and all of our leaders from the White House to our local police. We must take this seriously and intercede without ceasing.

Our pastors need our prayers for the Lord to open their ears and eyes so they can guide us effectively through this time. Pray also for your fellow countrymen who are looking for answers and who desire peace in their hearts. These are a few guidelines that you can follow so that you know you are doing something that is very important and necessary.

We all have a part in God's plan for this hour. As you are faithful to seek the Lord and pray, you can be assured that God will bring His body together as a strong force that will be extremely effective.
