The Little GuyI was recently at a meeting where a young man that I had led to the Lord several months earlier walked up to me and slipped something into my pocket. This fellow had struggled for over fifteen years with heroin addiction and is now on the long and difficult path toward a complete lifestyle change. When I arrived home later that evening, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small crumpled up envelope. As I opened it, out fell a worn twenty dollar bill and a note that read, " Brother Keith, having been raised in an abusive and very poor family I know what it is like to always be the underdog. So when it comes to my supporting a ministry, I'm supporting the little guy that does big things for God. Thank you for everything you do for us!" When I finished reading his note, I took a moment and prayed for him primarily for his current needs. As I did, it suddenly dawned on me that I was holding in my hand the equivalent of the widow's mite that we read about in Mark 12:41-44. Why do I say this? I say this because this young man really did not have the twenty dollars to give. He works on a hard labor construction job and seldomly if ever enjoys the luxury of seeing ends meet where his finances are concerned. His twenty dollar seed that he sowed into this ministry was truly all he had! The gratitude that his young man has in his heart for what God is doing in his life is truly humbling! I have the privilege of regularly being able to speak into his life and am looking forward to his one day becoming a fruitful minister of the gospel. Until then, I will continue to encourage him in his faith in any way that I can. This testimony is just one example of what God is doing in and through my life and ministry. When confidentiality does not apply, I will continue to share other testimonies like this one with you. Like this young man, the majority of the folks that God assigns us to reach are un-churched. This is why I believe with all of my heart that Toward the Mark has been raised up to play a crucial role in this end time harvest of souls. As more opportunities to reach out to more people continues to increase so does our need for increased financial help. Since we are not a church, passing the plate twice or three times a week is not a luxury that we have. Even though I do on occasion have the opportunity to speak or do concerts in front of larger crowds, we never ask for support because we want to be a blessing and not a burden to those to whom we are ministering. The majority of my time is spent speaking into the lives of people on a "one on one" basis. Toward the Mark is unique in that we have the ability and flexibility to do all of these. The faithful monthly support of our partners enables me to do this. The coming new year will bring with it many new opportunities to reach even more people with the life-changing message of our wonderful Lord and Savior. In addition to the ministries that I have already mentioned we are also completing the new album and finishing the "Sign Post into the Secret Place" project. We have two large outreaches planned for the spring. The first is an outreach to skate boarders featuring Stephen Baldwin. The second is an outreach to the outlaw motorcycle community featuring Ben Priest of Tribe of Judah Motorcycle Ministries. I also continue to speak into the lives of the Teen Challenge guys, head up our Biker bible study and so much more. I want to invite you to join me in ministering to these people by becoming a partner in our work. Your monthly support, no matter what amount, will surely make a big difference in our ability to effectively reach and educate the lost. We are recognized by the federal government as a nonprofit 501 C-3 organization. This means that any contributions that you make to our work are tax deductible. Thank you so very much for allowing me to share my heart with you! I pray that 2005 is your best year ever! | |
